What to Wear for Your Beach Photoshoot in the Hamptons
Nobody talks about how much work goes into preparing for a photoshoot—especially for large families. Coordinating outfits, juggling schedules, hair, makeup, and all the tiny details… it’s a lot. But those little touches make a big difference in creating photos you’ll proudly hang on your living room wall.
One of the most common questions I get before a photoshoot is:
What should we wear? Should everyone match? Do mommy & mini outfits look best? Or should everyone wear something different?
The truth is… there is no single right answer.
It really comes down to your personal style and what feels most like you.
I always recommend browsing Pinterest before your session. Try searching for:
“beach photoshoot outfits” or “family beach photoshoot”
Save the images that make you stop and think, “I love this.” You’ll quickly notice patterns in what you’re drawn to — whether that’s soft neutrals, flowy dresses, barefoot beach looks, or coordinated family outfits. This will help you build a look that feels natural and confident.
For beach sessions, especially at golden hour, I recommend:
Dresses for Mom: Flowy dresses photograph beautifully in the wind and sunset light. They add movement and softness to your images and help create that timeless, romantic look.
Soft, Natural Colors
I love color palettes such as:
• Sage
• White or cream
• Aqua
• Soft blues
• Beige and earthy tones
These tones complement the beach environment perfectly and keep the focus on your family’s connection rather than bold patterns or logos.
Instead of everyone wearing the exact same color, think coordinated, not matching.
For example:
• Mom in a sage or white dress
• Kids in soft neutrals or light blues
• Dad in beige, linen, or tan
This creates harmony without looking too staged.
Mommy & mini looks can be absolutely adorable if that’s your style — especially for little girls. Just make sure the rest of the family coordinates with softer tones so the outfits still feel balanced.
• Neon or very bright colors
• Heavy logos or busy patterns
• Black (it can look harsh in beach light)
• Sneakers (barefoot or sandals look more natural)
The most important thing is that you feel comfortable and confident in what you’re wearing. When you feel good, it shows in your photos.
If you’re unsure about your outfits, feel free to send me photos ahead of time — I’m always happy to help you choose pieces that will photograph beautifully together.
I can’t wait to capture your family in this gorgeous beach setting this Summer. 🤍
